CCDS in the Summer
Career Camps-Grades 3-9
Junior Architects
Rising grades 3–5. July 7–11, 9:00 a.m. to noon. $170.
Learn about the basics of architecture as you learn about things all kids love: castles, moats, and towers! Campers get a great introduction into this wonderful profession as they make the coolest castles Charlotte has ever seen. In the middle of the week, campers break into small groups to plan and build their perfect castles with a defense even the Panthers would love to have!
Architecture
Rising grades 6–9. June 23–27, 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. $385.
This year our campers are building an entire city from scratch! Learn about shapes, angles, tresses and stress (not the bad kind of stress!). In the middle of the week the class is divided into teams, responsible for building a landmark drawbridge. Each bridge is required to hold the most weight possible, be raised and lowered, and pass all city ordinances.
Fashion Runway!
Rising grades 5–8. July 7–11, 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. $385.
You have seen the show. Now live the life of fashion. During the week you design your very own styles, make your own clothes, and present them in our very own fashion show! In addition, you study the business aspects of fashion and some of the most famous designers of all time.
The Other Side of the Ball—A Sports Management Camp
Rising grades 5–8. June 16–20, 9:00 a.m. to noon. $170.
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to run your own sports team? Do you think you can be the next John Madden? Students entering this class are put to the test as they grab their clipboards and become week-long sports’ general managers and coaches. You study the art of running off-the-field activities within major professional sports in order to find out what it takes to make a Super Bowl, World Series, and NBA championship team. For the grand finale, each student drafts his or her own fantasy team to compete for the top prize: the CCDS Future General Manager Trophy!
Interior Design
Rising grades 6–9. June 23–27, 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. $385.
HGTV has nothing on you after you attend this camp. Learn all the components of interior design, which include: drafting, scale, color matching/mixing,etc. Find out why throwing out that old chair might be like throwing money out the door. This camp is an excellent chance to have a ball while seeing if design is a possible career for you in the future.
Mr. or Mrs. President!
Rising grades 6–9. July 28–August 1, 9:00 a.m. to noon. $170.
This camp is for those who have a love for politics. You study past presidents, the campaigns they ran, and whom they defeated. You also look at past commercials or campaign slogans they ran and what the defeated candidates could have done differently to win. Study how the Electoral College is made up and even get to talk to a real college member (if available). Finally, you divide into two parties and hold a camp election, complete with party platforms, commercials, and ballots!
