Strength and Conditioning Camps

Boys’ and Girls’ Strength Camp
Director: Bob Witman (704-943-4669). Ages 12 and older. June 16–July 25, 10:00 a.m. to noon.  $400 for six weeks, $75 per week, $15 per day. (A $30 nonrefundable deposit must accompany this application.) E-mail: bob.witman@charlottecountryday.org
Bob Witman begins his 18th year as varsity football coach and assistant track coach. This camp gives students the opportunity to receive individualized attention in a positive group environment. Each athlete performs within a goal-setting structure; progress is carefully charted to promote weekly improvement by the individual in his or her respective fitness program. Activities include detailed weight training instruction, flexibility and agility drills, plyometrics (jumping and bounding exercises to enhance lateral and vertical explosiveness), and cardiovascular conditioning. Emphasis is on identifying individual needs and enhancing athletic performance in those particular areas.

Girls’ Athletic Conditioning “Drop In” Camp (CANCELLED)
Director: Amy Gakenheimer (704-943-4782). Rising grades 7–12. Weeks of June 16–July 15. June classes (6/16–6/30) held on Monday and Wednesday, 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. July classes (7/1–7/15) held Monday and Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. $90 summer pass or $10 “drop in” fee per class. $15 non-refundable deposit must accompany application (the deposit is applied to the first class).  E-mail: amygak@bellsouth.net
This camp is for the female athlete in rising grades 7–12 who wants to maximize her athletic performance. Get or keep in peak athletic shape by attending this twice weekly, 60 minutes, set to music, athletic conditioning class. Amy Gakenheimer, 7th grade CCDS field hockey coach and certified group exercise instructor leads the group through a positive work out that focuses on improving the athlete’s cardiovascular, strength, and flexibility components of physical fitness. Coach Gakenheimer alternates using weights, body bars, resistance bands, balls, and mats to workout the entire body. This camp is a place for the female athlete to go and get her training in a fun, safe, and motivating environment. Coach Gakenheimer works with the female athlete to meet her training needs, whether she has a specific weight/cardiovascular plan from her coach or one from a Darnell Clark Training Academy.

All the academy camps are specifically designed to maximize the physical development of the middle school and high school athletes who are serious about reaching their athletic potential. Rising 9th Grade Weight Lifting Technique Camp (CANCELLED)

This camp is specifically designed for the rising 9th grade male and female athlete who plans on playing a sport at the high school level. Every CCDS, JV, and varsity team is expected to train with Coach Darnell Clark, either before, during, or after your sports season. This camp focuses on the anatomy and biomechanics of the most important warm-up, flexibility, core development, and weight lifting techniques in our system of training. Using video technology campers have a chance to perfect their technique by watching themselves train. Each camper is given a DVD illustrating the correct form of every exercise introduced in this camp. If you are an athlete or aspire to become one, this camp is necessary for your development. Middle School Field Hockey Conditioning Camp (CANCELLED)

The field hockey conditioning camps are not skills camps but camps that physically prepare your body for the demands of the sport. Coach Clark spent 2007 visiting with field hockey national powers such as Duke, North Carolina, and Wake Forest Universities. You will learn middle school modified versions of their training practices. Speed, strength, and power are the themes of the camp and you learn how to take your physical ability to the next level. At the end of the camp each camper receives three different detailed training programs that include four traveling/beach workouts, three weight room workouts, one pool workout, and a nutritional plan that directs you through the remainder of the summer. Field Hockey Preseason Conditioning Camp

Have you been at the beach, in and out of town, or just haven’t had much activity over the summer? Maybe you have been training all summer and don’t want to lose any of your gains before tryouts. This camp gives you the opportunity to train for two weeks prior to the very competitive field hockey tryout process. Each workout has a diverse itinerary that features speed, agility, plyometrics (jumping), flexibility, and plenty of core (abdominal) training. Whether you are trying to make the team or just trying to have the best season possible, you can never go wrong reporting to fall practice in the best shape of your life. Advanced Field Hockey Conditioning Camp

This camp is designed for the high school field hockey athlete who is serious about taking their athletic abilities to the next level. The field hockey conditioning camps are not skills camps but camps that physically prepare your body for the demands of the sport. You will learn the training practices first hand from these elite institutions. Speed, strength, and power is the theme for this camp and at the conclusion each camper receives three different detailed training programs that include four traveling beach workouts, three weight room workouts, one pool workout, and a nutritional plan that directs you through the remainder of the summer. In addition there is a designated time the field hockey teams can train in the weight room at CCDS for the remainder of the summer using the workouts from this camp. In addition, there is a designated time the girls’ lacrosse teams can train in the weight room at CCDS for the remainder of the summer using the workouts from this camp. This camp is specifically designed for the middle school football athlete. The football conditioning camps are not skills camps, but camps that physically prepare your body for the demands of the sport. Structured with a team concept and for the strenuous and demanding sport of football, this camp is designed to take your athletic strength and conditioning abilities to new levels. Maximize your body’s “playing strength” to dominate every individual battle. Improve your body composition to give you the pound-for-pound strength and speed necessary to excel at the highest levels. Improve mobility in your ankles, knees, and hips for the optimal stance necessary to explode powerfully off the snap. Develop the explosive strength to take on the interior line and the speed to run the field with the fastest of players. Develop the multi-directional speed and acceleration to break down and re-accelerate in the open field and/or close to make the tackle. Speed, strength and power is the theme for this camp and at the conclusion each camper receives a detailed weekly strength, speed, agility, and conditioning program.
