Library

Charlotte Country Day School’s three division libraries offer books, online databases, periodicals, reference works, maps, computers, software and audio-visual equipment and materials. Students can locate library resources using our web-based automated catalog of holdings and other database services, including Britannica Online and WorldBook Online. Students are encouraged to check out books daily and are expected to use the resources for both academic endeavor and pleasure reading. Professional library faculty are dedicated to each division library to teach and assist students in locating and using information effectively.

Upper School Library

The Cannon Memorial Library offers access to more than 20,000 volumes plus other resources, including periodicals, videocassettes, DVDs, and CDs. Laptops, digital cameras, and video recorders are also available for student checkout. Through the Cannon Library's web page, students, teachers, and parents may use several subscription services at home and at school. Periodical articles are accessible through EBSCO, SIRS, ProQuest, and Student Resource Center (including Opposing Viewpoints). Other online products, such as encyclopedias, The Oxford English Dictionary, Grove Dictionary of Art, and The World's Best Poetry Online, are among the array of resources available for the academic needs of our students.

Library patrons have access to reference computer areas where they may work individually for research, word processing or for other computer-related activities. In addition, computer labs are reserved for computer courses and other scheduled classes requiring a lab setting.

Library faculty are available to assist all students with research questions and materials selection. In addition, the librarians teach an Information Literacy course which is open to all ninth graders. Topics include how to make a bibliography, how to access, locate, and present information, and strategies for thinking critically.
